Thai Basil Chicken (Gai Pad Krapow)

3-4 teaspoons canola oil

2 fresh red chiles, cut into thin slices

1 large onion,  minced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 1/2 inch pieces

2 teaspoons honey or sugar

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1/3 cup water

1 cup fresh basil leaves


1. Heat 3 tablespoons canola oil in a medium nonstick skillet over medium high then add onion and cook, stirring, until golden.

2. Add garlic, turmeric powder, red pepper, and cook about 30 seconds longer.

3. Increase the heat to high and add the chicken and 1/3 cup water. Cook for  8-10 minutes or until light golden.

4. Add the basil, soy sauce, honey and stir well, about 1 minute.

5. Serve with rice.
